Reference – Scripture Memory in Spanish
How to Memorize These Verses
- Read aloud — Spanish requires mouth memory, not just mind memory
- Chunk it — break the verse into 3–4 word phrases
- Write it — once by hand reinforces memory
- Use it — find a natural moment to say it on your trip
Priority: memorize verses 1–7 before your trip. The others can be learned during or after.
The 15 Verses
1. Juan 3:16 — The Gospel in One Verse
“Porque de tal manera amó Dios al mundo, que ha dado a su Hijo unigénito, para que todo aquel que en él cree, no se pierda, mas tenga vida eterna.”
English: For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
Ministry use: The foundation of every gospel presentation. Most people you meet will know the reference. Say it in Spanish and watch the reaction.
2. Romanos 3:23 — All Have Sinned
“Por cuanto todos pecaron, y están destituidos de la gloria de Dios.”
English: For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.
Ministry use: Part of Romans Road presentation — explains our universal need.
3. Romanos 6:23 — The Wages of Sin
“Porque la paga del pecado es muerte, mas la dádiva de Dios es vida eterna en Cristo Jesús Señor nuestro.”
English: For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Ministry use: Romans Road — transition from problem to solution. Emphasize dádiva (gift) — free, unearned.
4. Romanos 10:9 — The Confession
“Que si confesares con tu boca que Jesús es el Señor, y creyeres en tu corazón que Dios le levantó de los muertos, serás salvo.”
English: If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
Ministry use: Use after sharing the gospel — this is how salvation happens.
5. Juan 14:6 — The Way, Truth, and Life
“Jesús le dijo: Yo soy el camino, y la verdad, y la vida; nadie viene al Padre, sino por mí.”
English: Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
Ministry use: Clear, gentle, and absolute. Good for one-on-one conversations about why Jesus specifically.
6. Filipenses 4:13 — All Things Through Christ
“Todo lo puedo en Cristo que me fortalece.”
English: I can do all this through him who gives me strength.
Ministry use: Encouragement in hard moments — for yourself and for those you serve. Short enough to say from memory in any context.
7. Isaías 41:10 — Do Not Fear
“No temas, porque yo estoy contigo; no desmayes, porque yo soy tu Dios que te esfuerzo; siempre te ayudaré, siempre te sustentaré con la diestra de mi justicia.”
English: So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
Ministry use: Powerful for someone in fear, grief, or crisis. No temas alone can be said as a short blessing.
8. Jeremías 29:11 — Plans for a Future
“Porque yo sé los pensamientos que tengo acerca de vosotros, dice Jehová, pensamientos de paz, y no de mal, para daros el fin que esperáis.”
English: “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
Ministry use: For those in hopeless situations. Speak God’s fin que esperáis (hoped-for future) over them.
9. Juan 10:10 — Life to the Full
“El ladrón no viene sino para hurtar y matar y destruir; yo he venido para que tengan vida, y para que la tengan en abundancia.”
English: The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.
Ministry use: Good contrast for youth conversations — Jesus is not a rule-keeper but a life-giver.
10. Mateo 28:19–20 — The Great Commission
“Por tanto, id, y haced discípulos a todas las naciones, bautizándolos en el nombre del Padre, y del Hijo, y del Espíritu Santo; enseñándoles que guarden todas las cosas que os he mandado; y he aquí yo estoy con vosotros todos los días, hasta el fin del mundo.”
English: Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.
Ministry use: The mission mandate. Know it in Spanish to share with the churches you partner with.
11. Salmos 23:1 — The Lord is My Shepherd
“Jehová es mi pastor; nada me faltará.”
English: The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.
Ministry use: The most recognized psalm worldwide. Even unchurched people often know it. Perfect for prayer over a person in need.
12. Lamentaciones 3:22–23 — New Mercies
“Por la misericordia de Jehová no hemos sido consumidos, porque nunca decayeron sus misericordias. Nuevas son cada mañana; grande es tu fidelidad.”
English: Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.
Ministry use: Encouragement for someone in a long, hard season. Grande es tu fidelidad is also a famous hymn title — saying it may spark recognition and connection.
13. Filipenses 4:6–7 — Peace That Passes Understanding
“Por nada estéis afanosos, sino sean conocidas vuestras peticiones delante de Dios en toda oración y ruego, con acción de gracias. Y la paz de Dios, que sobrepasa todo entendimiento, guardará vuestros corazones y vuestros pensamientos en Cristo Jesús.”
English: Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Ministry use: For anxiety, worry, crisis — and for medical or emergency situations where someone is terrified.
14. Colosenses 3:13 — Forgiveness
“Soportándoos unos a otros, y perdonándoos unos a otros si alguno tuviere queja contra otro. De la manera que Cristo os perdonó, así también hacedlo vosotros.”
English: Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.
Ministry use: For reconciliation conversations, family conflict situations, and after apology moments.
15. Hechos 1:8 — Witnesses to the Ends of the Earth
“Pero recibiréis poder, cuando haya venido sobre vosotros el Espíritu Santo, y me seréis testigos en Jerusalén, en toda Judea, en Samaria, y hasta lo último de la tierra.”
English: But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.
Ministry use: The sending verse. Share it with the local church as a reminder that their city is someone’s “ends of the earth” — and your country is theirs.
