When we petition God in Spanish, we use imperative (command) forms addressed to God:

Prayer Templates
For healing:
“Padre, te pedimos por [nombre]. Tú conoces su situación mejor que nadie. Sana su cuerpo, Señor. Dale fuerza para el proceso de recuperación. Quita el dolor. Que sienta tu presencia en este momento difícil. Confiamos en que tú eres el Dios que sana. En el nombre de Jesús, amén.”
For a family in crisis:
“Señor, esta familia necesita tu mano. Protégelos. Provee lo que necesitan — trabajo, salud, paz. Consuela los corazones que están rotos. Guíalos en los días que vienen. Que sepan que no están solos. Tú eres su Padre y los amas. En el nombre de Jesús, amén.”
For someone in spiritual need:
“Padre celestial, te pido por [nombre]. Toca su corazón. Ábrele los ojos espirituales para que vea tu amor y tu verdad. Envía personas a su vida que lo/la puedan guiar. Que nunca deje de buscar. Y cuando esté listo/a, atrae su corazón hacia ti. En el nombre de Jesús, amén.”
Short prayer you can pray anywhere:
“Señor, te pido por [nombre] ahora mismo. Tú lo/la conoces y lo/la amas. Bendícelo/la. Guíalo/la. Dale paz. Amén.”
Story: La Señora Que Lloraba (The Woman Who Was Crying)
Sara está caminando por el barrio cuando ve a una señora sentada frente a su casa, llorando.
Sara: — Señora, ¿está bien? ¿Le puedo ayudar en algo?
Señora: — (suspira) Es mi hijo. Está en el hospital. No sabemos qué tiene.
Sara: — Lo siento mucho. ¿Cómo se llama su hijo?
Señora: — Marco Antonio. Tiene diecinueve años.
Sara: — ¿Me permite orar por Marco Antonio y por usted?
Señora: — (sorprendida pero agradecida) Sí… por favor.
Sara toma las manos de la señora y ora:
“Padre celestial, te traemos a Marco Antonio. Tú lo conoces — lo creaste. Señor, sana su cuerpo. Que los médicos tengan sabiduría y que tú guíes sus manos. Consuela el corazón de su mamá. Que ella sienta tu paz que sobrepasa todo entendimiento. Confiamos en ti, Señor, porque tú eres bueno. En el nombre de Jesús, amén.”
Señora: — Gracias… ¿Cómo se llama usted?
Sara: — Sara. Soy misionera. Y voy a seguir orando por Marco Antonio.
(Sara is walking through the neighborhood when she sees a woman sitting in front of her house, crying… “May I pray for Marco Antonio and for you?” Sara takes the woman’s hands and prays… “Thank you… What is your name?” “Sara. I’m a missionary. And I’m going to keep praying for Marco Antonio.”)

¡Practícalo! (Speaking Practice)
Practice praying for each of these situations:
- A child who is sick
- A family without food
- A man who is searching spiritually
- A community dealing with violence
- A new believer who just accepted Christ
For each, pray out loud for 30–45 seconds. Use petition commands (sana, protege, bendice) and trust statements (sabemos que tú puedes, confiamos en ti).
Ask someone on your team to play the role of the person you’re praying for.
Cultural Note
Asking “Can I pray for you?”: In Latin America, the answer to “¿Puedo orar por usted?” is almost always yes — even from people who are not practicing Christians or who are Catholic. Prayer is understood and respected across cultures and traditions. Do not be timid about asking. The willingness to stop, hold someone’s hands, and speak to God on their behalf is one of the most powerfully cross-cultural acts of Christian love.
Oración
“Por tanto, confesaos vuestras ofensas unos a otros, y orad unos por otros, para que seáis sanados.” (Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed.) — Santiago 5:16
Pray for each other. Orad unos por otros. This is the ministry.
