Future with IR + A + Infinitive (Near Future)
The easiest and most conversational way to express the future:
Ir (conjugated) + a + infinitive

| ellos/ustedes | van | Van a construir una nueva aula. — They are going to build a new classroom. |
Simple Future Tense (Formal Future)
For more formal, definitive, or distant future statements, add future endings to the infinitive:
Endings: -é, -ás, -á, -emos, -án

Future in Promise and Vision
The future tense is powerful for promises, commitments, and prophetic statements:

Story: Las Promesas del Último Día (Last Day Promises)
Es el último día del equipo en el barrio. El pastor tiene unas palabras para ellos.
Pastor: — Hermanos, antes de que se vayan, quiero decirles algo. Ustedes llegaron como extranjeros y se van como familia. Lo que hicieron aquí esta semana — la comida que distribuyeron, los enfermos que visitaron, los niños a quienes enseñaron — quedará en nuestros corazones para siempre.
Marcos: — Pastor, es usted muy generoso. Nosotros aprendimos más de ustedes que lo que pudimos enseñar.
Pastor: — ¿Volverán?
Marcos: — Vamos a hacer todo lo posible para regresar. Y aunque no podamos venir pronto, seguiremos orando por ustedes y por este barrio. Yo personalmente voy a seguir aprendiendo español para poder comunicarme mejor la próxima vez.

Cultural Note
Departure grief: Saying goodbye at the end of a mission trip is often emotionally intense for both sides. Latin American families who have welcomed you invest deeply and feel your departure as a real loss. “¿Volverás?” (Will you return?) is not a pleasantry — it is a genuine question from a heart that has opened to you. Answer honestly. If you don’t know if you’ll return, say “No sé, pero voy a seguir orando por ustedes” (I don’t know, but I will keep praying for you). Empty promises of return cause real harm. Honest love is always better.
