Grammar Focus: Formal Commands for Classroom Management
When leading a group, use formal/plural commands:

A Teaching Session Template
Opening (2 min): “Buenos días a todos. Gracias por estar aquí. Hoy vamos a aprender sobre [topic]. Al final de esta sesión, ustedes podrán [learning goal].”
Main Content (15–20 min): “Primero, vamos a hablar de [point 1]. Luego veremos [point 2]. Y finalmente, [point 3].”
After each point: “¿Entienden hasta aquí? ¿Tienen alguna pregunta?”
Practice (5–8 min): “Ahora vamos a practicar. [Activity instruction].”
Closing (2–3 min): “En resumen, hoy aprendimos que [main points]. Esta semana, quiero que [application]. ¿Hay algo que no esté claro?”
Story: La Primera Clase (The First Class)
Marcos va a enseñar una clase básica de primeros auxilios a diez voluntarios de la comunidad.
“Buenos días a todos. Me llamo Marcos. Soy de los Estados Unidos y hoy voy a enseñarles sobre primeros auxilios básicos. El tema de hoy es: ¿qué hacer cuando alguien se lastima?
Primero, vamos a hablar de cómo llamar a la ambulancia. Luego, veremos cómo detener el sangrado. Finalmente, practicaremos cómo poner a alguien en posición de recuperación.
¿Alguien tiene experiencia médica? ¿No? Perfecto, empezamos desde cero. Por favor escuchen con atención. Si no entienden algo, levanten la mano.

(Marcos is going to teach a basic first aid class to ten community volunteers. “Good morning everyone. My name is Marcos… Today’s topic is: what to do when someone gets hurt? First, we’ll talk about how to call an ambulance. Then, we’ll see how to stop bleeding. Finally, we’ll practice how to put someone in recovery position. Does anyone have medical experience? No? Perfect, we start from scratch…”)

Cultural Note
Teaching styles in Latin America: Traditional education in much of Latin America is teacher-centered — the teacher speaks, students listen, memorize, and recite. Interactive, discussion-based teaching methods (common in American evangelical contexts) may feel unfamiliar at first. Start with more structured teaching and gradually introduce participation. Ask “¿Alguien quiere comentar?” rather than putting anyone on the spot. Storytelling, role-play, and visual aids cross cultural barriers more effectively than lecture slides.
