Putting It Together: Connected Speech
Simple (choppy): Conocí a José. Él tenía problemas. Oré con él. Él aceptó a Cristo.
Connected (fluid): Conocí a José cuando visitamos el barrio. Ya que él tenía muchos problemas, nos sentamos a hablar. Aunque él dudaba al principio, escuchó con atención. Finalmente, oramos juntos y él aceptó a Cristo. Desde ese día, su vida comenzó a cambiar.
Story: El Testimonio de Sara (Sara’s Testimony)
Sara comparte su testimonio frente a la congregación local — usando conectores para hablar con fluidez.
“Quiero compartir algo con ustedes esta noche. Antes de conocer a Cristo, yo buscaba algo — aunque no sabía qué era. Tenía buena vida por fuera, pero por dentro me sentía vacía.
Un día, mi compañera de cuarto me invitó a una reunión cristiana. Aunque no quería ir, fui porque ella me lo pidió de corazón. Y esa noche, mientras la pastora hablaba de Juan tres, dieciséis, algo cambió en mí.
Así que esa noche, sola en mi cuarto, oré por primera vez. No fue una oración elegante — solo le dije a Dios que necesitaba ayuda. Y Él respondió.
Desde que tomé esa decisión, mi vida no ha sido perfecta. Sin embargo, ya no estoy sola. Porque ahora tengo al que me conoce completamente — y me ama de todas formas.

(Sara shares her testimony before the local congregation, using connectors to speak fluidly. “Before knowing Christ, I was searching for something — although I didn’t know what it was.” “Even though I didn’t want to go, I went because she asked me from the heart.” “So that night, alone in my room, I prayed for the first time.” “Since I made that decision, my life hasn’t been perfect. However, I’m no longer alone.”)

Cultural Note
Elegance matters in Spanish: In Latin American oral culture, flowing, well-connected speech is a sign of intelligence and respect. A missionary who speaks in short, clipped phrases is understood — but one who speaks in connected, thoughtful sentences earns a different kind of attention. This isn’t about impressing anyone; it’s about communicating clearly that you’ve taken the language seriously. Every connector you learn is a bridge between your heart and theirs.
