Story: La Clínica del Sábado (Saturday’s Clinic)
El equipo misionero organiza una clínica de salud gratuita. Más de cien personas vienen. Sara hace el registro inicial.
Sara: — Buenos días, señora. Bienvenida a la clínica. ¿Cómo se llama?
Señora: — Carmen López.
Sara: — ¿Y cuántos años tiene?
Señora: — Cuarenta y tres.
Sara: — ¿Cuál es su motivo de consulta hoy?
Señora: — Tengo un dolor en el pecho desde hace tres semanas. Y a veces me cuesta respirar.
Sara: — (con atención) Entiendo. ¿Tiene alguna enfermedad conocida — diabetes, presión alta?
Señora: — Sí, tengo presión alta. Pero no tengo medicamento — no tengo dinero para comprarlo.
Sara: — Entendido. El doctor la va a atender ahora. Y señora — mientras espera — ¿le puedo preguntar si tiene fe?
Señora: — Sí. Soy creyente.
Sara: — ¿Puedo orar por usted mientras espera?
Señora: — (con alivio) Sí, por favor. Estaba esperando que alguien me preguntara eso.
(The mission team organizes a free health clinic. Over 100 people come. Sara does initial registration. “I have chest pain for three weeks. And sometimes I have trouble breathing.” “I understand. Do you have any known illness — diabetes, high blood pressure?” “Yes, I have high blood pressure. But I don’t have medicine — I don’t have money to buy it.” … “While you wait — may I ask if you have faith?” “Yes. I’m a believer.” “Can I pray for you while you wait?” With relief: “Yes, please. I was waiting for someone to ask me that.”)

¡Practícalo! (Speaking Practice)
Practice conducting intake interviews for these patients:
- A 65-year-old man with knee pain for 2 months, takes no medications, no known allergies
- A 30-year-old woman, 7 months pregnant, with headaches and vision problems
- A 5-year-old child with fever, vomiting, and diarrhea for 2 days
For each: ask the intake questions, note the key symptoms, explain what will happen next, and offer prayer.
Cultural Note
The clinic as sacred space: Many people who come to a mission clinic have not seen a doctor in years — sometimes decades. For some, this will be their first medical examination. The experience of being seen, heard, and cared for physically can open spiritual doors that no amount of preaching would. Treat every intake conversation as a pastoral encounter. The gap between “I came to help with medical needs” and “I came to share the gospel” does not exist in this context. They are the same thing.
