The Prayer Bridge
Before leading someone in prayer, make sure they understand what they’re doing. Ask:
- “¿Entiendes lo que hemos hablado?” — Do you understand what we’ve discussed?
- “¿Crees que Jesús murió por tus pecados y resucitó?” — Do you believe Jesus died for your sins and rose again?
- “¿Quieres recibir a Cristo como tu Señor y Salvador?” — Do you want to receive Christ as your Lord and Savior?
If they say sí — proceed.
The Prayer of Salvation in Spanish
Lead them line by line. Say each line slowly, wait for them to repeat:
Señor Jesús, (Lord Jesus,)
sé que soy un pecador. (I know that I am a sinner.)
Me arrepiento de mis pecados. (I repent of my sins.)
Creo que tú moriste por mí (I believe that you died for me)
y que resucitaste al tercer día. (and that you rose on the third day.)
Perdóname. (Forgive me.)
Te recibo como mi Señor y Salvador. (I receive you as my Lord and Savior.)
Entra en mi corazón y en mi vida. (Come into my heart and my life.)

After the Prayer — What to Say

Story: El Momento (The Moment)
Marcos y el señor Tomás se sientan en la sala de la casa de Tomás. Han hablado por una hora.
Marcos: — Señor Tomás, ¿entiende lo que hemos hablado?
Tomás: — Sí. Dios me ama. Yo he pecado. Jesús murió por mí. Y puedo ser salvo si lo recibo.
Marcos: — Exactamente. ¿Quiere usted recibir a Cristo hoy?
Tomás: — (pausa larga) Sí. Quiero.
Marcos: — Muy bien. Voy a decir una oración corta. Repita conmigo, con sinceridad, si lo cree en su corazón. ¿Listo?
Tomás: — Listo.
(Marcos guía al señor Tomás línea por línea. Al terminar, los dos hombres tienen lágrimas en los ojos.)
Marcos: — Señor Tomás, usted acaba de tomar la decisión más importante de su vida. ¡Bienvenido a la familia de Dios!
Tomás: — (con voz suave) Me siento diferente. No sé cómo explicarlo.
Marcos: — Es el Espíritu Santo. Él vive en usted ahora.
(Marcos and Mr. Tomás sit in Tomás’s living room. They’ve been talking for an hour… At the end, both men have tears in their eyes. “Mr. Tomás, you just made the most important decision of your life. Welcome to God’s family!” “I feel different. I don’t know how to explain it.” “It’s the Holy Spirit. He lives in you now.”)

¡Practícalo! (Speaking Practice)
Practice leading the prayer of salvation out loud — as if you’re leading a real person through it. Say each line with a pause after.
Repeat it until you can do it from memory.
Then practice the “After the Prayer” phrases. Speak them as warmly and genuinely as you can — this is pastoral care, not a performance.
Cultural Note
Emotional responses: Do not be surprised by tears, trembling, or sudden deep emotion when someone prays to receive Christ. These responses are common and genuine. In Latin American cultural and spiritual contexts, demonstrating emotion is not weakness — it is authenticity. Don’t rush past the moment. Sit in it. Pray more. Let silence be holy. If you’re moved too, let it show. Your tears beside theirs are not a breach of professionalism — they are a profound human sharing.
