Matthew 5

Matthew 5 is the roadmap for Christian character. Each be-attitude is a core character trait of one who follows Jesus.

To be poor in spirit is to recognize that you have nothing without God - no matter how much earthly wealth you might have. We mourn the sinful state of the world. We humbly serve... These are the core character traits, to one degree or another, of everyone who truly follows Jesus.

Then Jesus opens up various aspects of our relationships with others.

Be the light of the world. We are to carry God's presence with us wherever we go.

Don't treat faith as a get out of jail free card. Obey and respect God's authority in all things.

Control your anger. Control your lust. Be a man of your word. Let love, generosity, and forgiveness be your primary way of interacting with everyone.
