Third Reformation

The first reformation happened when Martin Luther pointed out that salvation comes by faith alone, in Christ alone, and that people should be able to read the Bible instead of relying on priests to read it to them. It was a reformation of the word.

The second reformation happened when people started having charismatic encounters with Holy Spirit. It was a reformation of the Spirit.

The third reformation is happening now and people are turning away from religious institutional affiliation and turning toward authentic relationships. It is a reformation of the Church.

Each reformation is not a new way of relating to God or each other. In fact, each reformation is a stripping off of man-made religious constraints and constructions. It is a returning back to life as it is described in the Bible.

The word reformation points to the re-forming of things that once were but over time have been de-formed.

The Bible needed to be set free from the clutches of religious monarchy.

The Spirit needed to be set free from the shackles of intellectual theocracy.

The Church needs to be set free from the oppression of institutional bureaucracy.
